LOCI, in collaboration with Ciccozzi Architects and Onni Group, is engaged on a complex, multi-tower multi-use development a block away from Coquitlam City Hall and Coquitlam Town Centre Park. 

01 // Plan + Inspiration

The overall design intent of the ground level on-site streetscape draws heavily upon three strong thematics at play on the site: one is the existing “Branches” public art installation directly adjacent to the site along Pinetree Way; the second a “stacked book” architectural expression seen in the towers as a reference of the adjacent library; and a third is the re-use of the Douglas Fir as an iconic symbol of Coastal BC.  These strong themes will help to inspire and guide the streetscape character, form and materiality.

02 // Public Realm + Streetscapes

Existing paving, furnishing and “The Branches” public art will provide inspiration and rationale for the onsite design and materiality along Pinetree Way.  A highly visible public activation zone beneath a signature architectural corner of the building, the south plaza is the first pedestrian “gateway” to the site.  Feature Cor-ten steel planters take on an angular form to mimic the building’s- “stacked book thematic” accented by long wood-top benches and specimen trees. Vertical signage will provide wayfinding and orientation.  Similar to the plaza to the south, the north plaza forms the north bookend of the site’s Pinetree Way streetscape, and also draws inspiration from the architectural “stacked book” thematic. Signage / wayfinding is also proposed at the junction of Glen Drive bike way.

03 // Amenities

 

Similarly, LOCI extended the form and character of the buildings onto the common amenity decks.  The varying angularity provides opportunities for grade changes and terracing of planters, while the key axes are strengthened to ensure ease of circulation.  Within this structure lies a diversified programme featuring places to play, socialize, relax, cook and entertain.  Functional elements include: a pool deck area, a games and party area, a dog run, a central socializing / gathering / event area, a great lawn with perimeter seating and outdoor kitchen, a communal urban garden, and a child play area.
