Cambie Gardens
Master Plan

Vancouver, BC // The Onni Group

Working closely with IBI Architects and Onni Group, LOCI will be shaping the future of healthy community living at the former Pearson Dogwood lands. Located at Cambie and West 57th, the high-density, multi-tower development envisions a complete community with a mix of land uses, people and activities, with a special emphasis on health care, urban agriculture, and social interaction.  We are proud to be part of this pioneering project of creating a community that embodies health and well-being, advances the city’s food security goals, and showcases the best of rainwater management.  Healing is extended from a clinical setting and integrated into many outdoor spaces.

01 // Plan + Analysis

We take a large scale, thematic approach to urban design initially, establishing key site-wide objectives and initiatives that help shape the public and private realm together. This process ultimately has a trickle-down effect on our programming, materiality, and detailing at smaller scales.

02 // Visualizations + Engagement

Visualizations and public engagement play are large role in refining our overall project goals, and are a great way to engage the surrounding community, city planners and the design team.  With the community’s help, our goal is to create neighbourhoods, streets, pathways and outdoor spaces that encourage people to go outside and walk, cycle, recreate and use active transportation. In essence, this project will weave active living into people’s daily lives where they work, live and play.

03 // Innovative Design

LOCI also hopes to better connect people to nature. There will be a strong emphasis on urban agriculture in the project which will include orchards, community garden plots, native and edible landscaping throughout, and most importantly, a sizable Urban Farm at the heart of the site that will give people an opportunity to see the growing, cultivation, and processing of food within an urban setting. We also envision opportunities for social engagement and education within The Farm that expands its programme and use for all times of the year.

Cambie Gardens Parcel A

Parcel A is the first of (8) development parcels within the 25-acre Cambie Garden Master Plan to receive permitting approvals and has been under construction for since 2019, with occupancy slated for 2022. Many of the key design thematics for the master plan can be found woven into the landscape design for this multi-use parcel.

Cambie Gardens Parcel C

Strategically located along the main diagonal of the larger site, adjacent to the proposed 1-acre Urban Farm, 2.5 Acre City Park, and with a visual connection to the future Sky Train station, a large part of this parcel will function as the social “heart” of Cambie Gardens. Pearson Plaza, High Street Commons, retail frontages and streetscapes all come together to form a highly visible and welcoming public realm.
